Although federal laws set the tone for regulating addiction services in the United States, state governments also set up agencies that oversee rehab programs within their jurisdiction. In Illinois, this responsibility falls on the Illinois Department of Human Services. The agency also ensures rehab centers meet standards set by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). </p>
<p>Acknowledging a substance use problem is the first step to addiction recovery. Next comes recovery. While it is possible to do this alone, expert care is often necessary to get better and stay better. </p>
